MoLD, PAF join hands to put up effective fight against povertyMoLD, PAF join hands to put up effective fight against povertyThe Ministry of Local Development (MoLD) and the Poverty Alleviation Fund (PAF) Nepal Friday joined forces by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to form a strategic alliance to alleviate poverty through synergistic efforts between the two institutions.The ministry's joint secretary Som Lal Subedi and PAF's executive director Raj Babu Shrestha inked the deal and entailed increased coordination and linkages during project planning, implementation, monitoring,Robe mariage, Mold reporting and review while implementing targeted poverty alleviation and empowerment initiatives at the local level, a joint statement issued this morning said.As part of the understanding, a five-member coordination committee has been formed at the central level to review the coordination and linkages between PAF and Mold implemented Local Governance and Community Development Programme (LGCDP)."PAF will coordinate closely with District based District Social Mobilization committee for social mobilization and programme monitoring. The community organizations formed under the aegis of PAF will be registered in local bodies," mentioned the statement.After the MoU deal, vice chairperson of PAF Vidhyadhar Mallik said, "This is a landmark agreement as it will avoid duplication of programme and resources and will create synergy on poverty targeted programme at the grass root level."The current agreement follows a landmark MoU related to information sharing and coordination between PAF and Ministry of Local Development in 2008."With this agreement, Mold and PAF are sending a clear message to the poorest and most isolated communities of Nepal that they are at the heart of development planning and that the government is committed to reach out to them for their secured livelihood and dignified lives," MoLD Secretary, Krishna Gyawali said.The Government of Nepal formed PAF in 2004 as a national instrument to uplift livelihood of poor people in rural areas who are deprived of basic facilities like food, shelter, health, education and drinking water.Related topics articles:
